Do the pictures on the left remind you of your lawn or the neighbors lawn? Well, you're not alone. Our area is prime for infestations of the
dreaded Ground Pearls. Ground pearls are scale insects that suck fluids from the roots of Bermuda grass, Bahia grass, St. Augustine grass, and Zoysia grass, but prefer Centipede grass. They may be associated with acidic soil and are some of the most damaging pests of turf throughout the southeast. It’s the ground pearl nymphs that do the damage by extracting juices from underground plant parts. There are no biological, chemical controls, or management strategies, that are currently available for ground pearls.

Neighbor2Neighbor (N2N) is a volunteer program established in Myrtle Beach 15 years ago to help home-bound elderly and medically disabled citizens with matching volunteer drivers with those needing services. The program is now also operating in Brunswick County in partnership with Brunswick Family Assistance and Brunswick Senior Resources.
The program is in need of volunteer drivers to deliver food and supplies throughout the county. After social distancing restrictions are lifted, volunteers may also be asked to drive clients to doctor's appointments, the grocery store or pharmacy, church and other errands.
If you are interested in volunteering, additional info is available by emailing Marty Cooke, the program Coordinator at or by calling

NATIONAL KITTEN DAY
July 10th is National Kitten Day. These miniature furballs of energy snuggle their way into our hearts with no effort at all. Within a flick of their tiny ears, we're in love. This day reminds us that while kittens are well equipped to find their way into our hearts, many don't find homes.
They're abandoned at shelters, on the side of the road or wild and feral. Spaying and neutering our pets, including our cats, is vital to their health and keeping the stray population down.
Of the 3.4 million cats entering animal shelters each year approx. 1.4 million are euthanized. This day is also to encourage adoptions. Instead of purchasing a kitten from a pet store, adopt from a shelter. Many kittens are born in shelters. Also, it is good to know that cats on average sleep 15 hours a day and kittens top out at up to 20 hours a day.
If you are considering getting a kitten, adopt instead of purchasing one.
Use #NationalKittenDay to share your story.
